Job Description

The Lead Senior Storekeeper serves as a key member of the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Logistics team, supporting warehouse operations including receiving, storage, distribution, inventory control, surplus management, and gas cylinder operations. Reporting through Operations Management to Executive Director of SCM, this position is responsible for coordinating daily warehouse and distribution activities while ensuring efficient material handling, inventory accuracy, customer service, and regulatory compliance.

 

In addition to performing core warehouse functions, the Lead Senior Storekeeper provides operational guidance and training to staff, including supporting warehouse package delivery training programs, onboarding new employees, and training team members on surplus, e-waste and recycling processes, warehouse management systems, and handheld devices. This role assists with quality control initiatives, communicates operational updates and reports to the immediate supervisor and leadership, and supports process improvements to enhance warehouse efficiency and service levels.

 

The Lead Senior Storekeeper serves as a resource for surplus and materials management, including coordinating sorting, handling, shipping, receiving and customer communication related to inbound and outbound materials, e.g., pallets, plastic, and paper recycling. The position also oversees gas cylinder operations by ensuring cylinders are properly labeled, received from vendors, inventoried accurately, prepared for vendor pickup, and delivered on schedule. The Lead Senior Storekeeper troubleshoots operational and vendor-related issues, follows up on concerns to resolution, and promotes a strong culture of safety throughout the warehouse.

 

Supports warehouse operations, surplus management, and route planning while promoting safe work practices, operational excellence, and customer-focused service. As needed, the Lead Senior Storekeeper performs labor service duties in both lead and helper capacities to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials throughout the organization.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications - Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds, using arm and fine finger movements in handling objects and withstand constant bending, squatting, crawling, standing, walking, reaching above the shoulder level, and frequent pushing and pulling of heavy mail carts, hand trucks, and other delivery equipment. Adept in working in confined or crowded locations and be acutely aware in proper handling and maneuver of delivery equipment in high pedestrian/visitor areas or congested corridors, offices, and labs. Work in various temperature and weather conditions. - Shown ability to establish and maintain good customer relationship and able to interact with a wide range of customers (management, lab personnel, medical staff, students, and patients) and provide accurate information. - Act and make decisions independently and able to prioritize and complete workload timely. Adhere to departmental standards on safety and courtesy and work performance through CARE. - Incumbent must be able to operate departmental delivery vehicles. Participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program and maintain an unencumbered CA drivers’ license. - Must be able to read, write, perform mathematical calculations, understand and follow general and specific work instructions, both oral and written. - Proficiently operate various sizes of vehicles (vans and trucks) including forklifts and electrical pallet jacks and have the ability to pass HazMat certification. - Current CA Driver’s License with no restrictions other than corrective lenses - Ability to read, write, perform mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, and three years of experience in stores work requiring supervision of the operation of a complete stores facility or a major division in a large stores facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Preferred Qualification - Driving Experience: One year of experience operating Type 4 to Type 6 class straight trucks. - Licensing: Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL - Class B or C). - Equipment Handling: Experience operating lift gates and cargo-restraining equipment. - Maneuvering: Experience moving bulk equipment using electronic or manual pallet jacks or dollies.
