Job Description

Responsible for the general operation of the UCSF Communication Center, which consists of the following:  process telephone calls for 911 police, fire medical and non-emergency services; input information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; input data into the various Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems and interpret the printout information once it is obtained; operate a multi-channel radio system under emergency as well as non-emergency circumstances, adhering to FCC rules and regulations in the course of its operation and ability to audibly monitor radio traffic; operate a hand-held two-way radio for communications; maintain various logs; process various alarms; and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - Valid California Driver’s License - High School diploma or GED equivalent. - Must be able to work shifts on a rotational basis (days, swings, and midnights) and have the ability to work on-call assignments and/or overtime and holidays when needed. - Effective written and verbal communications. - Ability to pass medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation in compliance with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards. - Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures, including the operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems within 1 year of appointment. - Passing Score on the POST Entry-level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery, before attending the academy. Preferred Qualifications: - Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers, and related Software Applications. - Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures, including the operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems. - Knowledge of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Systems.
