Job Description

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is recruiting a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) for the Children’s Communication Center (CCC). The CRC will provide operational and research expertise to support the clinical, translational, outreach, publicity and quality improvement/research activities of the CCC.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

1. Comprehensive care coordination (pre- and post-visit) for patients seen in the multidisciplinary CCC clinics

2. In-person participation in CCC clinics for patient recruitment, consent, and survey administration

3. Coordination and in-person participation in off-site CCC clinical research and outreach activities.

4. Coordination and in-person participation in translational research for the CCC, including biospecimen collection, processing, and analysis

5. Telephone survey administration

6. Database management and data entry

7. Review of medical charts and electronic records to extract medical information and other data for use in studies

8. Administrative support for research study activity (including working with the UCSF Committee for Human Research and other regulatory agencies)

9. Management of pediatric multidisciplinary CCC clinics, serving as a primary contact for all patient’s families

10. Maintain the CCC website and social media program

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training. - Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments, and outside institutions; and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population - Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines Preferred Qualifications: - 1-3 years of experience working with children ages 0-18 in a classroom or clinical setting - Computer experience: Microsoft applications, FileMaker pro, video and photo editing software - At least 1 year of experience working with deaf/hard-of-hearing children and their families - Proficiency in a second language (Spanish or Cantonese preferred) - Fluency in the usage of Committee of Human Research (CHR) online iMedRIS system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols through this system - Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation - Experience with electronic medical records - Experience with clinical patient management, including scheduling and insurance authorization - Experience with RedCap database structure, maintenance, management, and/or creation - Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.) - Knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines - Prior experience as a teacher of children with special needs - Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines: Good Clinical Practice Guidelines HIPAA The Protection of Human Research Subjects CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects Effective Cash Handling Procedures Environmental Health and Safety Training Fire Safety Training
