Physician Assistant, Sr. Vascular Surgery (Stanyan and Hyde Hospitals)

Join our dynamic Vascular Surgery Team.  This team provides advanced surgical and endovascular treatment of vascular disease. Our Vascular advanced practice providers manage patients across the continuum of care from new patient consultation to surgery to post operative follow up and surveillance management.  The Vascular Surgery Physician Assistant serves as a high-level professional with clinical, surgical/procedural, administrative and educational responsibilities in the care of adult patients requiring vascular and endovascular surgery. Under the clinical supervision of the Vascular Surgeon and management of Stanyan administrative leadership in partnership with the Heart & Vascular Director and Center Director of Surgical Services, the Vascular Surgery Physician Assistant will have a critical role in the inpatient and outpatient settings with both team member and individual duties. These responsibilities will include preoperative and postoperative patient examination and assessment, diagnosis and planning; treatment implementation, coordination and continuity; performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners. The Physician Assistant will also be cross-trained with colleagues on the General Surgical Service to provide mutual coverage during vacations, leaves, and periods of increased patient volume, as operational needs and staffing capacity permit. 

Required Qualifications: Physician Assistant: 1. Clinical rotations with vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, or general surgery within OR, ICU & floor setting 2. Experience as first or second assist in the OR experience with management of vascular access for endovascular 3. 6 months of experience working in an outpatient setting Physician Assistant Senior: 1. Two (2) year of inpatient vascular, cardiothoracic or general surgery experience in the ICU & floor setting 2. Experience as first or second assist in the OR 3. One (1) year outpatient experience as an advanced practice provider in vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery or general surgery (if combined inpatient / outpatient experience minimum 2 years Minimum License/Certification: 1. California Physician Assistant (PA) License without restriction 2. National Board Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) 3. California Driver License (if required for position) 4. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address 5. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 6. Additional required AHA certifications: ACLS 7. Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): 1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 2. Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients 3. Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role 4. Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by health care providers and team members 5. Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider 6. Submit health plan (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial for all APPs; also, CCS for pediatric providers) enrollment by first clinical day 7. At all times, must adhere to the UCSF Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Code of Conduct, PRIDE values, and applicable medical center/campus/departmental policies and procedures 8. At all times, must adhere to all UCSF policies regarding HIPPA, privacy, communication, documentation, encounter closure, and billing 9. Mandatory attendance at the Office of Advanced Practice Providers Orientation Sessions 10. Mandatory attendance at the APP Onboarding Committee APP Onboarding Series 11. This position requires flexibility for the APP to work at all UCSF Health facilities/locations 12. Performs other duties as assigned Preferred qualifications: - Two (2) years or greater PA experience managing vascular surgery patients in the critical care/ acute care/ OR and outpatient environments - Two (2) years of vascular surgery OR experience Preferred knowledge skills abilities: 1. Experience providing independent consults as primary service provider. 2. Possess the skills, knowledge and abilities to care for Vascular and General surgery patients in the following categories: acute care, vascular surgeries, gastrointestinal, bariatric, colorectal, surgical oncology, hepatopancreatobiliary, and endocrine surgery
