Job Description

The Nurse Practitioner supports clinical research activities within the Carhart-Harris Lab, with a focus on psychiatric screening, participant safety, and clinical oversight during research protocols involving psychedelic compounds.

They'lll conduct psychiatric evaluations to determine participant eligibility, including assessment of psychiatric history, current medications, and medical risk factors.

The NP will collaborate closely with the study physician and research team, provide clinical oversight during study sessions as needed, and respond to adverse events or participant safety concerns.

This role is primarily research-based and does not involve a traditional outpatient clinic panel. Flexibility is required to support protocol-driven sessions and extended study visits.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: • Minimum of one year of clinical experience as an NP in the same specialty and setting License/Certifications: • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges • NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role: Psychiatric and Mental Health Care (PMHNP-BC). • California Driver License (if required for position) • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification • Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS • Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None Preferred Qualifications: • Two or more years NP experience in psychiatric or behavioral health setting within the past five years, including independent patient evaluation and management • Previous experience with psychedelic medicine • Specialty certification: N/A • Experience conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including assessment of mood disorders, anxiety, and risk factors relevant to study eligibility • Ability to assess and manage acute psychological distress and escalate care appropriately in a clinical or research setting • Familiarity with clinical research protocols, including participant screening, informed consent processes, and protocol adherence UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
