Job Description

The Advanced Heart Failure Nurse Educator will function as an educator within the Advanced Heart Failure Comprehensive Care Center team.  The nurse educator will work closely with the pretransplant, posttransplant and the MCS team to provide timely education for patients considered for Advanced Heart Failure therapies such as VAD, TAH and heart transplant.  The Nurse Educator will provide education to patients who have undergone transplant and durable MCS implants to ensure  they are knowledgeable about their health condition and that the discharge process is streamlined and efficient. The Nurse Educator will also be responsible for educating hospital staff about AHFT such as transplant and MCS devices (VAD, Impella, TAH and ECMO).  The Nurse educator will create and implement educational programs for all ancillary staff (nurses, physical therapists, etc.), physicians, as well as outside facilities staff and collaborate with partner units leadership to maintain regulatory compliance related to TJC educational requirements for staff.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - At least four (4) years of Cardiac ICU nursing employment experience with evidence of strong understanding of cardiac hemodynamics and MCS devices. - Ability to design effective curriculum for a highly varied audience with different level of health knowledge. - Ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams and various leadership teams across the healthcare system. - Progressive leadership or education experience as demonstrated by participation in unit councils, unit Performance/quality improvement initiatives or unit based education initiatives. - Demonstrated exemplary patient teaching skills and transferring of critical knowledge to patient and families including teach back and debrief. - Excellent organizational skills, proficiency in meeting deadlines, ability to work independently, prioritize workload and manage numerous concurrent tasks in high stress environment. - Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills - The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations in person on campus Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required Licenses/Certifications - Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California - Active American Heart Association BLS certification Active American Heart Association ACLS certification
