Job Description
Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager. 
The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is an 18-bed tertiary and quaternary cardiac surgical intensive care unit that cares for critically ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. PCICU patients arrive through our in-house, nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care that can only be provided at UCSF Medical Center or direct referrals for specialized surgical care. These patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. Nurses on this unit learn the skills necessary to maintain vital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families through difficult times.
Department Description
The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) specializes in the care of children with complex congenital heart disease. Surgical procedures include repair of congenital heart defects and permanent pacemaker insertion. Medical interventions include management of acute/chronic heart failure, septic shock, renal and respiratory failure. Critically ill children are cared for with such treatment modalities as mechanical ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, temporary pacemaker therapy, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and acute hemodialysis.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - Three years of Pediatric or Adult Cardiac ICU RN clinical experience - Three years of progressive leadership experience in patient care services. - Bachelors of Science in Nursing - Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making. - Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills. - Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes. - Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments. - Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice - This position requires cross-training to the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit as needed Preferred Qualifications: - Two years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU RN leadership or supervisory experience - Masters Degree in Nursing or relevant area - CCRN - Leadership Certification Required License/Certifications: - Registered Nurse in the state of California - American Heart Association CPR certification - American Heart Association PALS certification
