The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States.

The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery).  Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP.  The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.

Nurse Practitioners on the PICU and TCUP Team provide care in rotating 12h shifts.

Qualifications
Required qualifications: - Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Specialization - Nurse Practitioner 1:- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience working as an RN in a Pediatric ICU setting - Nurse Practitioner 2: - Minimum of two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience in a pediatric inpatient or emergency department setting AND minimum of two (2) years inpatient RN experience in pediatric critical or transitional/intermediate care Preferred qualifications: - Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as an AC-PNP in a level III Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Licenses/Certifications: - California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction - California Nurse Practitioner (NP) License without restriction - California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role - Pediatric Inpatient (CPNP-AC). See Addendum A below for more detail. - California Driver License (if required for position) - Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - Additional required AHA certifications: PALS - Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None
