JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist per diem, reports to the Clinical Supervisor/Manager and provides both direct and indirect patient care services, in-person and through telehealth. The per diem OT works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and within a specific therapy discipline, the per diem OT plans and administers a full range of OT services for patients with various physical and cognitive impairments, including patient evaluations, therapeutic interventions, therapeutic intervention planning or intervention requiring discipline specific skills. The per diem OT maintains all applicable documentation related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the per diem OT may also supervise support personnel as allowed by discipline specific State Practice Acts including Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides, as well as OT and COTA students. 

Qualifications
REQUIRED - Minimum of 1 year of general patient care experience. - Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. - Ability to recognize signs of distress. - Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification. - Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication. - Possession of effective interpersonal, time-management, and problem-solving skills. - This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. PREFERRED - Prior professional clinical experience in an academic medical center environment. - Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team. - Possession of a graduate degree or certificate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited professional educational program. - Experience with OP OT services, including telehealth. POPULATIONS SERVED Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of a specific individual, including the patient’s age. When the therapist is primarily working with patients of age groups other than adult and/or geriatric, additional age-specific performance criteria for neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations are delineated under the pediatric clinical services mentoring program.
