Job Description
Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. 
Department Description
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed tertiary and quaternary medical/surgical intensive care unit that cares for critically ill neonates through adolescents. The majority of PICU patients arrive through our in-house, nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care that can only be provided at UCSF Medical Center. These patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. Nurses on this unit learn the skills necessary to maintain vital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families through difficult times. The PICU Registered Nurse will coordinate patient care in collaboration with physicians, PICU CNS, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life, Social Work, Nutrition and Discharge Case Managers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - Five (5) years recent RN experience in Pediatric Critical Care - Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing - Evidence of recent and progressive leadership experience - Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making - Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology, critical care unit operations, and patient care workflows and processes - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner - Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments Preferred Qualifications: - Charge Nurse experience - Three years progressive nursing leadership/management experience with patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies - Knowledge to manage disaster incidents and critical events; strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines - Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objective - Experience training and mentoring staff; experience preparing and presenting reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals - Master’s Degree Required License/Certifications: - Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California - Active American Heart Association BLS Certification - Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
