Job Description

The Physician Assistant will function as a dedicated procedural provider within the Neuroradiology Division, with primary responsibility for the independent performance of diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar punctures across inpatient and outpatient settings. This role is designed to support high-volume procedural services, improve access to care, and optimize neuroradiologist capacity for complex interventions.

UCSF-hired APPs whose UCSF clinical responsibilities require patient care at facilities/locations outside of UCSF Medical Center and Clinics must abide by California regulations and are expected to provide clinically indicated care that meets the applicable standards of care. Additionally, they must be credentialed and privileged and follow the Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Policies of those facilities/locations. 

Examples include but are not limited to Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital (LPPH), Marin Health, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, UCSF Health Saint Francis & St. Mary’s Hospitals and Clinics, Washington Hospital, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG).    

Credentialing, privileging, and applying for health plan enrollment must be completed prior to the first working day. 

Qualifications
Requirements Graduation from a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA). - Five (5) years of clinical experience in a procedural, inpatient, or acute care setting (e.g., neurology, neurosurgery, hospital medicine, critical care, interventional radiology, or similar). Preferred Qualifications - Prior OPPE/privilege documentation demonstrating competency in lumbar punctures. - Experience in neuroradiology, neurology, neurosurgery, interventional radiology, or critical care. - Experience working in an academic medical center or large integrated health system. License/Certifications 1. California Physician Assistant (PA) License without restriction 2. National Board Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) 3. California Driver License (if required for position) 4. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address 5. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 6. Additional required AHA certifications: ACLS 7. Additional required certifications (such as ENLS):None UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
