Job Description

The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Network Hospital Division, is a senior operational leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence across UCSF Health Network’s community hospitals. Reporting to the COO, UCSF Health Network, this leader will oversee day-to-day hospital operations, performance improvement, and the delivery of high-quality inpatient care across UCSF Health Stanyan Hospital and UCSF Health Hyde Hospital.

UCSF Health Stanyan and UCSF Health Hyde are community hospitals that serve as essential access points for inpatient care in the UCSF Health Network. These hospitals provide a broad range of inpatient services, including medical, surgical, and rehabilitative care, and serve as a key bridge between community-level acute care needs and the advanced clinical capabilities of the broader UCSF Health academic medical enterprise. Together, they represent a critical component of the Network’s ability to deliver integrated, high-quality care across the Bay Area.

The primary focus of this position is to drive elite operational performance across both hospital campuses — optimizing patient throughput, workforce deployment, and care quality while maintaining financial sustainability. The COO, Network Hospital Division will cultivate high-performing clinical and operational teams committed to exceptional patient experiences, strong medical and staff engagement, and consistent delivery of strong operational outcomes.

As a core member of the UCSF Health Network operations leadership team, this role will align hospital operational priorities with Network goals and collaborate closely with health system leaders to address complex operational and clinical challenges. This position carries significant accountability for hospital operational performance, safety, regulatory compliance, and financial results, with a clear understanding that operational excellence in the inpatient setting underpins the safety, quality, and reputation of the entire UCSF Health Network.
