The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by UCSF Medical Center as well as its providers and payors. These services include, but are not limited to, drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of patient drug use policies; drug information services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs.
As members of the health care team, PGY2 Pharmacy Resident shares responsibility for providing high quality, cost-effective patient care which promotes health in the area of specialty practice. This includes evaluating and managing drug regimens for appropriateness of choice; teaching patients and their caregivers how to use drugs in the safest and most effective way; helping patients and their caregivers take an active role in managing their drug therapy; and advocating for patients the safe and effective use of drugs to other health care decision makers. The purpose of the PGY2 Pharmacy position is to develop clinical pharmacy specialists equipped with the expertise and clinical aptitude for specialty practice in acute and ambulatory settings. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, oncology, pediatrics and solid organ transplant.
