Job Description

The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner will deliver comprehensive healthcare under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital –Oakland/San Francisco and under the administrative supervision of the Director of Pediatric Critical Care at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with a dynamic interdisciplinary team of providers to care for patients in the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit and in all inpatient areas that care for pediatric cardiothoracic surgery patients. Care is also provided in the outpatient clinic, via telehealth, and potentially in the operating room (depending on departmental need, experience, and interest). In the clinic and inpatient areas, the Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, evaluation, planning, teaching, and case management of preoperative and postoperative cardiothoracic surgery patients. The Nurse Practitioner will primarily work at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco campus and may cross train to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland campus or other facilities where our Pediatric Cardiothoracic surgeons operate.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). - Minimum of six (6) months of NP experience in the Pediatric Critical Care or Pediatric Cardiology - Demonstration of advanced interpersonal skills while working with families of acutely and critically ill children - Excellent organization and communication skills - Dedication to patient care - Ability to critically think and problem solve Preferred Qualifications: - One year of working experience as an NP in or pediatric cardiology - RNFA certificate Licensure/Certifications: - California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction - California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction - California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role Pediatric Inpatient (CPNP-AC). See Addendum A below for more detail. - California Driver License (if required for position) - Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - Additional required AHA certifications: PALS - Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs and Governance (OMAG) to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Credentialing takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.
