Hospital Assistant 3 Per Diem

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Administrative Nurse Manager and MA Supervisor, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant III assists in the delivery of care to patients in multiple Cancer Center ambulatory group practices.  This position supports the various cost centers within the Cancer Center, multiple campuses, and satellite offices. Work includes a variety of personal care and nursing procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. They  will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. They are required to learn and be able to assist in all Cancer Center specialty practices. S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture. - Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility. - Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows. - Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments. - Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft. OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Performs any other duties related to patient care activities as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. - Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. - Ability to communicate effectively, both directly and over the phone. - Able to meet physical requirements. - This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations. PREFERRED QUALIFICATION - One year’s experience as a Hospital Assistant in a medical practice. - Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, medical assisting, or patient financial services strongly preferred. - Degree from accredited medical assisting school. - Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred. - Current State of California Phlebotomy Certification (CPT1) REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Please list - Current American Heart Association CPR Certification POPULATIONS SERVED Employees who routinely provide direct patient care require a statement concerning Populations Served Competencies.
