Job Description

The incumbent will be assigned to the Mental Health Diversion (MHD) Team of the Citywide Case Management Forensic Program. The MHD Team specializes in care for adults with chronic and severe mental illness who are referred by Jail Behavioral Health Services and who are participants in San Francisco’s Mental Health Diversion Collaborative court. In this position, the incumbent will work with individuals with co-occurring mental disorders and substance use disorders. The incumbent will carry a caseload of individuals who are actively involved in the criminal justice system and will work closely with San Francisco’s Mental Health Diversion Court. The incumbent will provide comprehensive assessment, crisis intervention, case management, individual and group therapy, and substance abuse services. Clients will receive their mental health and substance abuse services at the clinic, in custody, or wherever the client is in the community.  The clinician will be assisting clients in meeting their needs and will make referrals as appropriate.  Clinicians will provide progress reports and clinical recommendations to the MHD court and collaborate with all partners in the court. Clinicians are expected to assertively outreach individuals in the community in order to engage clients in treatment utilizing the recovery model and a “Whatever It Takes” approach. This is part of the SFGH Department of Psychiatry’s comprehensive effort to treat high risk clients in the community and to reduce unnecessary use of institutional care.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: - CSW I: Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university and registered with the Board of Behavioral Science as An Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Intern Marriage Family Therapist (IMFT). - CSWII: Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related fields from an accredited university and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science - Registration with California Board of Behavioral Sciences as MFTI or ASW, APCC, LPCC, LCSW or MFT. - Two years working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations. - One year experience doing community-based case management and the ability to do outreach including SRO hotels. - One year experience working with individuals actively involved in the criminal justice system. - Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and be detailed oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting. - Able to lift 50lbs and climb stairs. - Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability. - A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance. - An understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients - Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds. - Ability to obtain San Francisco County Jail Clearance through the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department - Ability to work with clients who present with aggression and/or assaultive history. PREFERRED: - Prior related UC experience LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: - Registration with California Board of Behavioral Sciences as MFTI or ASW, APCC, LPCC, LCSW or MFT.
