Job Description

The Clinical Research Services (CRS) of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) integrates multiple clinical sites across San Francisco and Oakland that provide services to clinical research investigators.  The CRS provides an array of services, such as Nursing Services, Sample Processing Laboratories, and Body Composition and Exercise Laboratories. The CRS is the largest NIH funded program in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

The Nurse is responsible for the assessment of patient needs, implementation of research protocols and nursing interventions, and evaluation of outcomes. The Nurse is responsible for facilitating medical research based on individual protocol requirements data collection and/or collection of specimens within the CTSI Clinical Research Center for the implementation of approved protocols.  This position requires professional nursing knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with other members of the health care team.  The position requires the knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide competent patient care.  The Nurse reports to the Assoc. Nursing Director or Charge Nurse for shift duties. The Nurse will collaborate with all interdisciplinary services. 

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - Six (6) months of clinical experience RN expereince - Baccalaureate degree in Nursing - Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population. - Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines. - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows. - Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians. - Demonstrated knowledge of Good Clinical Practice. - Skills and experience necessary to successfully complete blood draws as well as start IV lines. - Strict adherence to protocols and safety guidelines. - Ability to use an electronic medical record system. Required Licenses and/or Certifications: - AHA BLS certification - Current CA RN License - APHON Certification for Pediatric Chemotherapy or Biotherapy Provider (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire) Preferred Qualifications: - 2 years of recent acute care hospital experience - Prior clinical research experience. - Prior experience using electronic medical record system (i.e., Epic) - Experience with chemotherapy.
