Job Description

The Division of Neuro-Oncology here at UCSF cares for patients with central nervous system tumors (CNS brain tumors) from diagnosis, through all stages of their illness, including hospice and death.  Approximately 2000 patients per year are seen in the outpatient clinic. Patients are treated with standard of care therapies as well as research protocols.  This position will work with the staff of Neuro-Oncology: neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurses (CNII/CNIII), and clinical research associates in caring for this patient population under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager RN.

The primary responsibility of the Neuro-Oncology CN II is to provide comprehensive care for all brain tumor patients being followed by the Division of Neuro-Oncology here at UCSF.  He/she will work closely with the Nurse Practitioners, CNII, CNIII, physicians, both neurosurgeons and neuro-oncologists, who see and care for patients with CNS tumors in clinic.  He/she will assist in coordinating and overseeing the care of this patient population as they prepare for a variety of treatments, as well as those who enroll in clinical trials.  In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the Neuro-Oncology CNII will assist in protocol development, working with the study PI, lead Research Nurse/Project Manager, Research Manager, and Senior Clinical Research Coordinator.  He/she will also serve as a resource for UCSF and the community, providing education on Neuro-Oncology protocols, as well as care of the patient with a brain tumor and related topics.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an RN in Neuroscience, Oncology, or Research Management - Minimum of 3 years’ experience in outpatient clinic and currently working in that setting - Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge in neurosurgical nursing, oncology nursing, and/or clinical trials - This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations Preferred Qualifications: - Outpatient Oncology RN experience - In-patient neurosurgical experience (step-down unit or ICU) - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited nursing program - Charge Nurse experience Licenses/Certifications: - Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. - Current healthcare provider CPR certification - NIHSS: National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Certification
