Job Description

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Licensed Vocational Nurse – Juvenile Justice Center provides direct nursing care to adolescents and young adults receiving healthcare services at the Juvenile Justice Center through UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. 

The LVN supports the delivery of safe, developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care within a secure juvenile justice setting.

Responsibilities include performing patient intake and obtaining vital signs, administering medications and immunizations, performing ordered treatments and laboratory procedures, assisting with health screenings and clinical assessments, and supporting providers during examinations and procedures within the LVN scope of practice. The LVN coordinates care among patients, healthcare providers, interdisciplinary team members, and Juvenile Justice Center staff; recognizes and communicates changes in patient condition; maintains accurate and timely documentation in Epic; and supports continuity of care and follow-up services.

The LVN maintains patient privacy and confidentiality and follows established infection prevention, medication safety, security, and clinical protocols specific to the Juvenile Justice Center environment. The position promotes equitable, culturally responsive, trauma-informed care for a diverse adolescent population while adhering to UCSF policies, professional standards, and Living PRIDE values.

 

 

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: - One year of correctional nursing experience - Phlebotomy certification - EKG experience - Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position, including demonstrated excellent communication skills, problem-solving ability, and high comfort level with learning new technology/systems - Basic computer/keyboarding skills - Prior experience with EPIC - Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment Required Licenses/Certifications: - Licensed as a Vocational Nurse in the State of California - AHA CPR certification (BLS)
